A vision coming alive
The idea started on the road, between long drives, packed weekends and the wish to make travel feel easier. Roof boxes had barely changed for decades. Big. Heavy. Hard to store.
The real insight came at home, in the rhythm of everyday life. Small cars, tight garages and city apartments made traditional roof boxes impractical for many people. From IKEA runs to ski weekends, the need for extra space was clear, but the old solutions simply did not fit modern living.
Mikael sewed the first functional prototype in his garage, and the concept worked from the start. The development that followed strengthened every part of it, from materials to safety, shaping Twistboxes into the smarter roof box invented for real life.
Production and Craftsmanship
Every Twistboxes begins its journey in the hands of skilled craftsmen and engineers. From early sketches in Sweden to final assembly in our state-of-the-art facilities, every detail is carefully designed, tested, and refined.
This gives us full control over every step of the production process, from design and material sourcing to assembly and
quality assurance.
All Twistboxes products are manufactured in partnership with HD4U in Hangzhou, China in a fully Swedish-owned facility that operates under Scandinavian quality standards.

At Twistboxes, safety is not an option - it’s our foundation. In independent tests conducted by the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI), Twistboxes outperformed every leading competitor. Our roof box successfully passed the industry’s toughest challenges: the City Crash Test at 18 km/h and 13 g, a High-Speed Test at 30 km/h, and even the UNECE R129 Crash Test at 49 km/h – the same standard used for child car seats.
Based on these test results, it is fair to say that Twistboxes roof box is the safest roof box in the world. Withstanding forces up to 26.8 g without external damage or detached parts, Twistboxes has proven to surpass all existing industry standards and set a new global benchmark for safety.
